The ingredients needed to make Hummus with Tahini:
- Take 2 cups canned chickpeas
- Take 5 tablespoons tahini, sesame paste
- Get 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- Prepare 4 tablespoons lemon juice
- Take 1 teaspoon salt
If you want to make hummus without tahini, simply leave it out. This hummus is our favorite go to recipe when creating hummus. It has the perfect balance of garbanzo beans, olive oil, tahini and seasonings. Hummus is great for a healthy appetizer served with veggies such as broccoli and carrots or perfect for using as a spread with pita bread or on a sandwich.
Steps to make Hummus with Tahini:
- Drain the chickpeas and blend them in a food processor until you get a smooth paste.
- In a big bowl, dilute the tahini paste with 1 tablespoon of warm water. Add the crushed garlic, lemon juice and salt. Mix well until you get a whitish liquid sauce.
- Add the chickpeas paste to the sauce and mix well. Adjust lemon juice and salt to taste.
- Serve in a shallow dish with a drizzle of olive oil and pita bread.
- Garnish with mint leaves, a sprinkle of cumin or some whole chickpeas.
Without tahini: If you want to make hummus without tahini, you can simply leave it out. For extra smooth hummus- peel the skin from each individual chickpea (either from the can or after cooking). This takes time but will result in very soft and smooth hummus. The best hummus is lusciously creamy, yet somehow light and fluffy. It's beautifully smooth and swirled, and begging to be scooped up onto a wedge of pita bread.
